How is Lionic’s QoS different from traditional device-based QoS?

Traditional QoS systems often assign priority based only on device IP or MAC address. Lionic’s DPI based approach identifies the actual application category, such as video streaming or gaming, regardless of which device is sending the traffic. This allows each type of traffic to be handled based on its behavior, even if multiple apps are used on the same device.

Do I need to create complex rules or configure individual app ports?

No. Lionic QoS uses a simple category based interface. Just drag and assign categories like Work, Gaming, or Streaming to the priority level you want. There is no need to deal with ports, manual rules, or guesswork.

What happens when the network isn’t congested? Does QoS still limit traffic?

Not at all. Lionic QoS is designed to be dynamic. Lower priority traffic can use the full bandwidth when the network is clear, and only steps aside when higher priority traffic appears.

How does Lionic QoS handle encrypted traffic like HTTPS, QUIC, or DoH?

Thanks to our DPI engine and protocol parsers, Lionic can accurately identify application types even in encrypted traffic streams. This ensures consistent category-based prioritization, even when traditional QoS systems fail to recognize traffic obscured by encryption.

Can Lionic QoS work with my existing traffic control or hardware QoS system?

Yes. Lionic QoS is built for integration. It can tag traffic using conntrack marks, allowing seamless interaction with existing Linux TC queue structures or hardware-based QoS mechanisms. Advanced deployments can even modify DSCP values for more precise prioritization at the packet level.
