Introducing TLS Proxy for Handling HTTPS Connection
Hsinchu, Taiwan - December 18, 2023 - The competition between keeping information private and using DPI (deep packet inspection) is ongoing. As more websites adopted HTTPS for secure connections, it became tough to check if there was anything bad hiding there.
Lionic Corporation, as a pioneer in DPI (deep packet inspection) and network security technology, is proudly introduces its solution to monitor encrypted network traffic, the TLS Proxy program.
HTTPS is like a safe version of the usual HTTP, wrapped up in a security layer called TLS (Transportation Layer Security). Also, TLS can secure various protocols, like turning SMTP into SMTPS.
People wanted privacy but also needed to ensure safety. That’s where Lionic steps in with its new TLS Proxy. This smart tool uses of man-in-the-middle scanning technology involves decrypting, scanning, and then re-encrypting encrypted network packets from both ends of the connection before transmitting them to the other end.
Although there are limitations, such as strict validation of the TLS certificate of the other end, this solution still significantly enhances network security checks and therefore ensuring robust threat detection and prevention. This TLS Proxy does not only handle HTTPS, but also will expand into other TLS-based protocols like SMTPS, IMAPS and beyond.
Lionic’s network security products, Pico-UTM, Tera-UTM and Dual Ark-UTM, equipped with the TLS Proxy program. This feature intercepts TLS network traffic, encompassing HTTPS, SMTPS, and more, employing sophisticated scanning techniques to decrypt, scan, and re-encrypt encrypted packets.
Key Features of Lionic’s TLS Proxy:
- TLS Traffic Interception and Decryption: Proficiently decrypts and scans encrypted connections.
- Advanced Man-in-the-Middle Scanning Technology: Ensures scanning after decryption and re-encrypting before transmission, maintaining the secure connection.
- Integration with Anti-Malware Module: Scans decrypted traffic for virus files, malicious URLs, and network attack content. Blocking the distribution of malicious content in encrypted traffics.
- Integration with Content Management Module: Highly integrated with application and device identification and thus enhancing precision.
- Whitelisting based on Website Categories: Integrates with Lionic’s own Web Content Filtering database, exempting specified categories of websites from decryption, ensuring privacy and enhancing performance.
- Uploading Certificate: Facilitates enterprise deployment by accepting user-uploaded certificates.
Eric Lu, CEO of Lionic Corporation, expresses confidence in this technology, stating, “How can we ensure encrypted connections while maintaining cybersecurity protection? Lionic’s DPI technology can achieve this.”
